This certificate program instructs the student on the necessary personal traits and characteristics to effectively sell anything. Using a combination of virtual learning and one-to-one feedback sessions with the instructor, the course provides students with an effective personal selling skillset and a review of the important role the salesperson has in daily living and business.

Upon completion of this course, the student will:

  1. Describe the sales field, its economic importance, and the many career opportunities available.
  2. Discuss the six-step sales process and the importance of developing strategies and skills to establish successful relationships with customers.
  3. Examine the first step in the sales process, prospecting, including the importance of lead generation, keeping the “prospect wheel” full, and proper prospect/customer recordkeeping.
  4. Discuss the second step in the sales process, preparation, and develop various needs-oriented selling approaches.
  5. Develop various sales presentations based on different strategies and plans.
  6. Demonstrate various negotiation strategies focused on "win-win" outcomes
  7. Develop appropriate closing strategies based on customer needs.
  8. Discuss the importance of customer follow-up and support, including the ethical treatment of customers.
  9. Explore the role of sales management to plan, organize, lead, and control the selling process considering human and other resources.
