Dental Assistant
Certificate Program
Dental assistants play a vital role in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of dental care delivery. As key members of the dental team, they support dentists in providing high-quality oral healthcare. This program is ideal for individuals with strong communication skills who enjoy hands-on work and are looking for a career with responsibility and growth potential.
Instruction is delivered through a blend of in-person and online lectures, laboratory practice, and supervised clinical experience. Upon successfully passing the DANB Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) exam, students will earn the Delaware State Radiology Certification. The program includes all required textbooks, certification exam fees, uniforms, and BLS certification.
Internship/clinical experience is included; hours and locations may vary from the course schedule. Prerequisites are required. Please contact your preferred campus for more information.

What You Will Learn
Measurable Performance Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the student will:
- Identify ethical issues and professionalism standards within the dental profession.
- Identify dental anatomy.
- Identify and demonstrate proper use of dental instruments.
- Apply basic principles of infection control and properly utilize Universal Precautions.
- Demonstrate knowledge of prevention and the management of emergencies, and the prevention of disease transmission.
- Demonstrate proper mixing and handling of dental materials.
- Demonstrate procedures for taking dental impressions.
- Demonstrate procedures for creating temporary dental restorations.
- Demonstrate proper treatment room preparation.
- Demonstrate proper instrument sterilization procedures and guidelines.
- Perform chair-side dental assisting procedures safely.
- Perform oral anatomy and charting functions accurately; perform the collection and recording of clinical data.
- Perform radiology and dental laboratory procedures accurately and safely.
- Perform basic dental equipment maintenance.
- Pass exams and quizzes at 70% or above.
- Demonstrate appropriate and effective communication skills with patients and dental professionals.
Prior to registering for this allied health program, an applicant must attend an and complete a placement test.
