Certificate Program

Launch a rewarding and dynamic career in the fitness industry with this Certified Personal Trainer program. This comprehensive course covers essential topics such as biomechanics, exercise physiology, fitness assessments, equipment use, and client health evaluations. The program also includes 40 hours of hands-on, practical training to build real-world experience.

Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to take the ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) Certified Personal Trainer exam.

Internship/clinical experience is included; hours and locations may vary from the course schedule. Prerequisites are required. Please contact your preferred campus for more information.

Upon completion of this course, the student will:

  1. Explain the role and scope of practice of a personal trainer.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of basic anatomical structures and the musculoskeletal system.
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of biomechanical and kinesiological principles.
  4. Explain the fundamentals of biomechanics and exercise physiology in personal training.
  5. Demonstrate a basic understanding of cardiovascular and pulmonary physiology.
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of basic nutritional concepts.
  7. Utilize knowledge of theories of behavioral change in assessing clients and developing fitness plans.
  8. Discuss behavior change techniques to support adherence to fitness plan.
  9. Integrate innovative strategies to support client’s adherence to fitness plans.
  10. Display a client-centered approach to health and fitness coaching.
  11. Construct a sequential and comprehensive fitness assessment.
  12. Collect and summarize subjective information from clients using health screening assessments.
  13. Utilize varying exercise modalities in creating an individualized exercise plan.
  14. Design client-specific exercise programs based on assessment results.
  15. Demonstrate methods to safely instruct and cue various training exercises.
  16. Explain varied exercise considerations for clients with chronic disease or other physical or health challenges.
  17. Use and maintain fitness equipment effectively, skillfully, and efficiently.
  18. Correctly measure vital signs.
  19. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support/ AED.
  20. Understand areas of potential legal liability and the guidelines on legal liability issues.
  21. Adhere to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.
  22. Practice professional behaviors and professional communication to build and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  23. Demonstrate a basic understanding of budgeting and business plans.

Prior to registering for this allied health program, an applicant must attend an and complete a placement test.
