Clinical Medical Assistant
Certificate Program
This program provides comprehensive training to equip students with the skills needed to assist healthcare providers by preparing patients for exams and treatments, performing routine laboratory tasks, and conducting diagnostic tests. Instruction includes in-person classes, online lectures, hands-on laboratory work, and clinical experiences.
Upon successful completion, students are eligible to sit for the Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national certification exam.
Internship/clinical experience is included; hours and locations may vary from the course schedule. Prerequisites are required. Please contact your preferred campus for more information.

Upon completion of this course, the student will:
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with instructors, peers, and clinical site employees.
- Demonstrate emotional stability to allow professional interaction with patients under stressful or demanding conditions.
- Demonstrate and apply standard precautions and the blood-born pathogen standard.
- Demonstrate appropriate use of medical terminology.
- Operate health data elements.
- Discuss the contents of a health record.
- Discuss regulatory issues such as confidentiality, security and privacy.
- Describe the legal aspects of medical assisting including the HIPAA regulations, confidentiality and OSHA guidelines.
- Discuss the need for critical thinking for a medical assistant.
- Demonstrate general patient care and education.
- Demonstrate appropriate and effective communication skills with health care professionals.
- Evaluate different types of patient scheduling and arrange for diagnostic testing and procedures.
- Perform and EKG appropriately.
- Demonstrate how to prepare and administer medications and immunizations.
- Demonstrate successful venipuncture and capillary sticks.
- Demonstrate ability to identify patients accurately in the lab and clinical setting.
Prior to registering for this allied health program, an applicant must attend an and complete a placement test.
