Certificate Program

Delaware Tech’s new Carpentry program is designed to prepare you for entry-level jobs in the high-demand building and construction trades. Participants will gain the essential carpentry skills needed to begin their career through the use of extensive hands-on training and activities.

This program was developed using the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) training materials and guidelines as well as national OSHA safety standards. NCCER textbook included.

What You Can Do

In this program, you will gain the knowledge and skills to prepare you for positions such as:

What You Will Learn

Measurable Performance Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student will:

  1. Demonstrate the proper way to use various types of hand and power tools.
  2. Interpret residential and commercial architectural and construction documents.
  3. Perform framing basics and the procedures for laying out and constructing a wood floor using common lumber.
  4. Lay out and frame walls, including roughing-in door and window openings, constructing corners, partition, and bracing walls.
  5. Measure, cut, install, finish and repair drywall.
  6. Lay out rafters for gable roofs, hip roofs, and valley intersections as well as implement the basics of roof sheathing and shingle installation.
  7. Perform various types of exterior finishing and installation procedures, including wood, metal, vinyl, and fiber-cement siding.
