Jason Shaver

Maintenance Mechanic

Jason Shaver joined Delaware Tech in 2024 as a maintenance mechanic. From playing baseball as a kid in an international tournament at Disney World to being recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) as an adult, Jason has had some unique experiences. At Delaware Tech, he enjoys new challenges, opportunities for growth, and—most importantly—being part of a welcoming community.

Q: What is your favorite thing about working at Delaware Tech?

I enjoy working in a place that presents new challenges and allows me to grow alongside people who are committed to improving themselves.

Q: Why was it important for you to work at Delaware Tech?

At Delaware Tech, I have found stability in my position along with opportunities to grow, advance, and continually improve myself.

Q: What did you do before working at Delaware Tech?

Prior to working at Delaware Tech, I was a building engineer on Wall Street in New York City.

Q: Describe your first day at Delaware Tech. What was that experience like?

I enjoyed meeting the crew and getting familiar with the campus. It was such a warm and welcoming experience.

Q: What changes have you seen in yourself since you started working here?

Now that I’ve turned 40, I’m starting to take a closer look at my overall health.

Q: What hobbies or interests do you have outside of the College?

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling. I recently put in a new pool, so I’ve been investing time into making my home a place to relax and have fun. Most importantly, I love football—especially fantasy football!

Q: What’s something people may not know about you?

As a kid, I played baseball in the Disney World International Tournament against teams from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas. As an adult, I had the unique experience of being recruited by the CIA.

Q: How do you define student success?

I believe any step toward self-improvement is valuable. While the College often measures success through graduation rates, I personally see growth in the small steps—like taking a math class to strengthen money management skills for personal budgeting.

Q: What are your future goals?

In 21 years, I hope to retire as a director or regional director of facilities. My dream is to enjoy a simple life with a small house, a pool, plenty of golf, and of course—football!
