Dr. Delora McQueen

Business Administration Department Chair

Dr. Delora McQueen joined Delaware Tech in 2013 and now serves as the business administration department chair at the Terry Campus. Raised to value education, she hopes to be a positive role model for students. Her favorite memory at Delaware Tech is attending her first graduation ceremony. McQueen said watching her students walk across the stage as they celebrated their accomplishments reminded her of why her work at the College is so meaningful.


Q: What is your favorite thing about working at Delaware Tech?

“My favorite thing about working at Delaware Tech is being part of a truly student-centered community. I appreciate how we embrace diversity and strive to ensure every student feels supported, valued, and equipped to succeed.”

Q: Why was it important for you to work at Delaware Tech?

“I wanted to work in a place where I could give back. I was raised to value education, and I hoped to be a positive example while helping students reach their academic and professional goals. I believe education can truly change the trajectory of a person’s life, and Delaware Tech allows me to contribute to that impact for all students, regardless of their background or circumstances.”

Q: What did you do before working at Delaware Tech?

“Before joining Delaware Tech, I worked in the hospitality and human resources management field.”

Q: Describe your first day at Delaware Tech. What was that experience like?

“My first day was a blend of anticipation and uncertainty, but despite not knowing many people, I quickly felt supported and optimistic about starting my journey in higher education. I met many new faces and was quickly embraced by my peers in the business department.”

Q: What changes have you seen in yourself since you started working here?

“I’ve grown as a leader and become much more understanding of the diverse needs of our students. My time here has strengthened my ability to encourage students individually and to create learning environments that are inclusive and supportive for all learners.”

Q: What hobbies or interests do you have outside of the College?

“I enjoy reading, watching movies and sports, home décor/design, and traveling internationally to experience diverse cultures and cuisines. I’m an avid football fan of the Carolina Panthers and the North Carolina Tar Heels basketball team. I also love spending time with my family and taking peaceful walks in the park with my cavapoo, Priya.”

Q: Do you have a favorite memory from your time at Delaware Tech?

“My favorite memory is the first graduation ceremony I attended after starting here. Watching students from my classes walk across the stage and celebrate their achievements filled me with joy and reminded me why this work is so meaningful.”

Q: What’s something people may not know about you?

“I’m originally from North Carolina, and as an Air Force veteran and spouse, I’ve had the opportunity to live in several states, including South Dakota, before moving to Delaware. I have also traveled to over 20 different countries.”

Q: How do you define student success?

“Student success occurs when students gain the skills, knowledge, and opportunities they need to reach their academic and career goals. It means they reach the finish line at Delaware Tech and are academically and professionally prepared to take the next step.”

Q: What are your future goals?

“My future goals include continuing to enhance our programs and broaden opportunities for student success. Supporting diversity and creating inclusive pathways is especially important to me. I also want to be a positive example and mentor for students and future business professionals as they grow in confidence and discover the path that’s right for them.”
