Sarah Qasim
Bachelor of Science in Education
For Sarah Qasim, education represents opportunity. A Bachelor of Science in Education student at Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Wilmington campus, Qasim views her academic journey as a reflection of perseverance and purpose.
As someone who immigrated to the United States at a young age, earning a college degree carries deep personal significance for her.
“Education symbolizes growth and the fulfillment of goals that once felt out of reach,” Qasim said. “College has given me the tools to advocate for myself and others while building a future grounded in service and purpose.”
Qasim chose Delaware Tech for its supportive learning environment and commitment to student success, particularly as a first-generation college student.
“Delaware Tech made higher education feel accessible and welcoming,” she said. “The smaller class sizes and dedicated faculty allowed me to build strong relationships and receive individualized support.”
During her time at the College, Qasim faced health-related challenges that required resilience and balance between academics and personal well-being. Navigating these obstacles strengthened her time-management skills and reinforced the importance of self-advocacy.
Qasim’s decision to pursue education was shaped by her own experiences as a student, particularly learning English and adapting to a new educational system. Those experiences inspired her to become an educator who supports diverse learners and fosters inclusive environments.
“I wanted to be the kind of teacher who makes students feel seen, capable, and valued,” she said.
Since starting at Delaware Tech, Qasim says she has grown in confidence, discipline, and leadership. She credits the College with helping strengthen her academic writing and communication skills, while also learning to advocate for herself and her students.
Qasim encourages other students to take advantage of the resources available on campus and build meaningful relationships with faculty and staff.
“Ask for help early, stay organized, and build relationships with your professors,” she said. “Staying consistent, managing your time wisely, and believing in yourself are key to success.”
After graduation, Qasim plans to continue working in education while pursuing law school. Her long-term goal is to become a lawyer focused on advocacy and community service, particularly for underserved and immigrant populations.
“Delaware Tech has been a transformative part of my journey,” Qasim said. “It provided me with not only an education, but also confidence, mentorship, and a sense of belonging. I am grateful for the opportunities and support I’ve received, and I’m proud to be part of the Delaware Tech community.”
