Have questions about Delaware Tech’s study abroad programs? This page provides answers to common questions about costs, eligibility, tourist destinations, and more.

Your travel cost is all-inclusive: It includes airfare, all accommodations, all in-country travel, transportation to and from a Delaware Tech Campus, and most of your meals. You are responsible for snacks, souvenirs, any excursions not listed on the brochure, and may be responsible for some meals.

All students. First semester and non-degree seeking students are welcome to apply. GPA requirements and prerequisites are listed on the course applications.

No! In fact, this is a great way for first-time travelers to experience travel for the first time. Delaware Tech makes all travel arrangements.

These travel experiences focus on experiential learning. You will rarely, if ever, find yourself in a classroom! The site visits are a mixture of program-specific locations and tourist destinations. Each travel experience is different. Please consult the brochure and/or the lead instructor for specifics.

Every course is different, but a “typical” course will have required programming from late morning to late afternoon/early evening each day. Most courses allow for free time to explore the area during evenings.

Each travel experience is led by a lead instructor and assisted by a support instructor. They will lead you during programming. Instructors will be available during free time in case assistance is needed.

All students are eligible regardless of major, as long as the prerequisites are met.

Nope! You do not need a passport to enroll. However, when you decide to enroll, you should apply for your passport right away. You must have your passport by the time that you depart, and it can take up to 3-4 months for a new passport. For passport details, including how to apply for one online, see the website. Note that if you do have a passport, it typically must be valid for 6 months after your proposed travel dates to be used. Ask your IEC or lead instructor for details.

No. Travel abroad is typically scheduled during spring break or after graduation in late May. They may overlap with some summer sessions.

Yes. Scholarships ranging from $500-$1,500 are available to eligible students. You may also be able to use funds from your financial aid disbursement towards the study abroad travel expense.

The study abroad travel expense typically ranges from $2,500-$3,500 in addition to the tuition and registration fees for the course.

International experience broadens your horizons and looks great on your resume - it shows employers that you are working to develop sought-after skills such as: flexibility, adaptability, cross-cultural awareness, and interpersonal communication skills.

First, contact the faculty leader for the course (you can find this information on the study abroad website). You should ask questions about the course details before deciding where to study abroad - each course is different. If you are interested but are not sure which course is right for you, talk to your campus International Education Coordinator (IEC) for an overview of each one.

When you decide to enroll, you will first interview with the lead instructor for the course. Upon their approval, you then schedule an advising session with the IEC for your campus. If your application is accepted, you may register for the course and make the first payment towards your study abroad travel expense.

Yes! We have a number of Global Understanding events throughout the year, some of which provide information. (See our Global Understanding page for specifics.) For example, each fall we have a Study Abroad Fair on each campus, usually in early October. A representative from each travel course will be there to answer questions. We also have a Study Abroad Workshop each year, during which we provide insight into successful international travel, and how to enroll in one of our courses. We also usually have a Postcards from Abroad event each year, during which students who have participated in a Delaware Tech Study Abroad course provide details about their experience, including tips for successful travel and how it positively impacted their lives. All of these events are free and do not require registration, and we provide refreshments at each event. Consult the Global Understanding page for this semester’s events, and ask your IEC for details.
