Trenton Jones
Business Management
Trenton Jones decided to attend Delaware Tech for a variety of reasons - small class sizes, flexibility, and an environment where he believed he could thrive. He says that all of those dynamics, supported by attentive and caring instructors, helped lay the foundation for his successful career in project management. While Trenton’s immediate goals are to continue his professional growth by pursuing additional certifications to strengthen his expertise, he ultimately hopes to become a college instructor. He says his time at Delaware Tech was transformative because of his instructors, so he wants to pay it forward by becoming “that same source of encouragement and support for others, especially for students who, like me, need someone to remind them that their dreams are possible.”
Q: What led you to make the decision to attend Delaware Tech?
“I decided to attend Delaware Tech because I saw it as a place where I could truly thrive. The smaller class sizes meant I wasn’t just a number - I had the opportunity to build meaningful connections with my classmates and instructors, which made a huge difference in my learning. Delaware Tech also offered the flexibility I needed to purse my education while working full time, allowing me to chase my goals without putting my life on hold. It was the perfect environment to grow academically and personally.”
Q: Why did you choose your major?
“I selected my major because I have a passion for leading others, solving problems, and making meaningful impact within organizations. The classes that were offered at Delaware Tech equipped me with the skills to plan, organize, and inspire teams, which drives success in any industry.”
Q: Describe your first day at Delaware Tech. What was that experience like?
“My first day at Delaware Tech was a bit exciting and a little nerve-wracking. It had been a few years since I was last in school, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. However, any anxiety I had quickly faded once I walked into my First Year Seminar class. The instructor’s energy was so positive and encouraging, she immediately made us feel like we belonged. In one of the classes, she had us map out a college class checklist, not just as a tool for planning, but as a way to visualize our journey toward graduation. That simple exercise gave me a sense of direction and reminded me that every step I took mattered.”
Q: What was your most valuable experience from your time as a student at Delaware Tech?
“The most valuable experience from my time at Delaware Tech was attending my instructors’ office hours. Those one-on-one moments were more than just a chance to ask questions, they were opportunities to truly connect, gain clarity, and grow in confidence. My instructors took the time to support me, challenge me, and make sure I really understood the material.”
Q: Do you have a favorite memory from your time at Delaware Tech?
“I have a few favorite memories from my time at Delaware Tech, but two stand out the most. One was being selected for the Student Spotlight. It was an incredible honor that reminded me of how far I had come. The other was a conversation I had with my oral communication instructor. I shared with her how I was using some of the lessons from class to support the high school students I worked with at the time. Not only was she excited to hear, but she offered to come and speak to them herself, and she followed through. Watching my students light up as she engaged with them was an unforgettable moment. It showed the power of education to create a ripple effect beyond the classroom and reminded me that learning isn’t just for us, it’s something we can pass on to others.”
Q: What is your job title now?
“My current job title is project management consultant with Deloitte.”
Q: How did Delaware Tech prepare you for your career?
“Delaware Tech laid the foundation for my career in powerful ways. The classes gave me essential, real-world knowledge that I now use every single day in my role. One of the most impactful experiences was earning my Microsoft Excel certification through one of my courses, a skill that has become a core part of my daily work. More than just technical skill, Delaware Tech gave me the confidence to grow, adapt, and thrive in a professional environment. Delaware Teach has truly prepared me to step into my career with purpose and ability.”

There are staff and faculty who are deeply invested in your growth and success, but they need to see your dedication and effort. Show up, do the work, and believe in yourself. Also, don’t overlook any opportunity the College offers, whether it’s workshops, instructor’s office hours, or networking events because sometimes the smallest step can lead to the biggest breakthrough. Your journey starts here, and Delaware Tech can help you go further than you ever imagined.”
Q: What are your future goals?
“My future goals are to continue growing in the field of project management while pursuing additional certifications to strengthen my expertise. Ultimately, I hope to become a college instructor. My time at Delaware Tech was transformative because of the instructors who believed in me, guided me, and helped me see my potential. I want to be that same source of encouragement and support for others, especially for students who, like me, need someone to remind them that their dreams are possible.”
