Trio of Men's Lacrosse Graduates Head to Wilmington University

After being key pieces to the best season in Â鶹ÊÓƵ men's lacrosse history, teammates Conor Christie, Matt Kracyla, and Louis Savino are transferring to Wilmington University to continue their education and continue playing lacrosse.

"It's going to be awesome playing with Conor and Louis again," Kracyla said. "It'll be good going in knowing somebody and having built in best friends, and it'll be awesome getting to grind with them for two more years."

All three leave Delaware Tech highly decorated and having left their marks in the school record book.

Not only is Christie a two-time NJCAA All-Region player, but he also set a new school record for most points in a season (2022), tied the school record of most goals in a game (8), and led the nation in scoring in 2022. All of those statistical achievements led to Christie being named an NCJAA All-American, along with fellow Delaware Tech teammate Jack Dennis. He graduated cum laude with his degree in middle-level math education.

He hopes he can find similar success at the next level of lacrosse. Christie, a Milford High School graduate, said he chose Wilmington because he knew the college had a high-level education program and he was blown away by the lacrosse program when he toured the facility.

"They made me feel very much at home the first time I went there," Christie said. "The lacrosse program is still fairly new, but they are improving a lot each year and it's really awesome to see. I figured it would be a great opportunity to be part of a program on the rise and continue to help put lacrosse in Delaware on the map."

Christie credited the Delaware Tech coaching staff for helping him improve on his weaknesses and allow him to feel better prepared to play for Wilmington University.

"I am a much different player now than I was coming out of high school," Christie said. "I am much more confident, and the big part of that was the Delaware Tech coaching staff. They trusted me with the offense and made me feel comfortable with the ball."

Being teammates is nothing new to Kracyla and Savino. The pair have played lacrosse together since they were freshmen at Middletown High School. Kracyla leaves Delaware Tech as a two-time NJCAA All-Region player and one of the best two-way midfielders in school history. He graduated magna cum laude with a degree in general studies. Savino is a one-time all-region player, led the nation in faceoff percentage in 2021, and is one of the best faceoff players in school history. He graduated with his degree in management.

"I'm going to always remember how much the Delaware Tech coaches gave us and put in work for us," Savino said. "When Matt and I got there, the program only had a few players and the coaches turned it into a team that brought a region championship two years later.

"It just shows how much coaches will give their players if their players are willing to put in the work."

Both players ended up at Delaware Tech because it was the best financial choice, and because they had faith that playing at the junior college level would prepare them for a division II or III school.

"Delaware Tech has really helped me refine my fundamentals and get reps in," Savino said. "It was great work with the faceoffs because we played the best junior college teams in the country, and the faceoff players for those schools always go on to play for a top DII or DIII school."

"I knew I would be able to use Delaware Tech as a gateway to get looks from four-year universities," Kracyla said. "It was a great experience for me. It was affordable, a great education, and a great lacrosse program. I'd highly recommend it to anyone."

Kracyla prides himself on his fitness level and will major in health science at Wilmington University. He said he knew some of the players who recently played at Wilmington and a few who are currently on the team and each one loves the program and the coaching staff.

Savino has previous experience playing for Wilmington's head coach during his younger lacrosse days, and loves the idea of continuing to represent his home state on the lacrosse field. He will major in small business management.

All three said they will never forget their time at Delaware Tech.

"This team, especially this past season, we had a super close bond," Christie said. "We made memories that will stay with me for a long time."
