Terry Campus Holds 20th Annual Gourmet Gala

November 3, 2023

The Delaware Tech Terry Campus celebrated the 20th anniversary of its Gourmet Gala on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, with “An Evening in the Amalfi Coast” affair that entertained more than 200 guests.

The premier fundraising event for student success on the College’s Terry Campus in Dover, Gourmet Gala proceeds enhance the ability of the campus to offer educational opportunities and activities, scholarships, and additional financial support to students. Over its 20 years, the gala has raised more than $3.2 million in gross proceeds.

This year’s event was chaired by Ron and Beth Baron. Ron is president & CEO of Del-One Federal Credit Union and Beth has been a social worker for nearly three decades.

The evening began with a cocktail hour featuring appetizers and hors d’oeuvres and signature cocktails prepared by Painted Stave Distilling and a seasonal sangria featuring Fifer’s Orchard cider.

For dinner, guests enjoyed a plated main course of Braciole al Barbera (Roulade of beef filled with fresh herbs, parmesan, breadcrumbs, and garlic, slowly braised with Roma tomatoes and Barbera wine) served with potato puree and mélange of root vegetables, paired with a 2022 Barbera from Crow Vineyard.

Guests finished their dining experience with an assortment of regional Italian desserts of lemon Delizie, Rum baba, fresh cannoli, and pistachio truffles from Sweet Dreams Confections Co.

The night also featured music by The Creative Jazz Ensemble in the main room and Nancy Curry in the lounge, as well as two photo stations and a live auction. During one portion of the auction, guests raised nearly $12,000 to support 11 student scholarships that were awarded that evening to culinary arts and nursing students who were working as event volunteers.

Premier Gourmet Gala event sponsors were Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware, Bayhealth Medical Center, Buck Simpers Architect + Associates, Colonel George H. Chabbott, Delmarva Power, and Del-One Federal Credit Union.

Food and beverage sponsors were Chaiyo, Crow Vineyard, Delaware Tech Applied Agriculture program, Delaware Tech Culinary Arts program, Dogfish Head, Fifer’s Orchard, Harrington Raceway & Casino, Painted Stave Distilling, Sweet Dreams Confections Co, and The Nook.

Next year’s Gourmet Gala will be held October 26, 2024.
