September 25, 2023

The 15th annual Central Delaware Economic Summit, held Sept. 19, 2023, on the Delaware Tech Terry Campus in Dover, focused on the topic of artificial intelligence. The summit featured a keynote address by James Collins, public sector leader for the Americas at Microsoft, and a moderated chat with Collins and three other business and industry professionals utilizing AI in day-to-day operations.

In his keynote presentation, Collins, former chief information officer for the State of Delaware, provided an overview on what AI actually is, how it has evolved over time, and where it appears to be headed in the near future. He also addressed the ways Microsoft is utilizing and developing AI and how he routinely incorporates AI during the workday to maximize his efficiency and performance.

During the panelist chat, Collins was joined by Solomon Adote, chief security officer for the State of Delaware, Gene Donaldson, traffic management center operations manager at Delaware Department of Transportation, and Marc Kidwell, chief information officer of Del-One Federal Credit Union. All four took the opportunity to share how AI is already impacting daily operations in their respective businesses and organizations, how they depend upon AI to maintain operations, and how they envision the technology impacting their business sectors even more as the technology advances.

Presented annually in partnership between the Terry Campus and the Central Delaware Business and Entrepreneurship Consortium, the economic summit brings together leaders in business, government, education, and the community to focus on improving the economic conditions and quality of life in central Delaware.

This year’s summit was sponsored by Delaware State News, Delaware Business Times, Chesapeake Utilities, Del-One Federal Credit Union, Delaware Electric Co-op, Delaware Division of Small Business, Delaware Audio Visual, and DEMEP.

Next year’s summit is scheduled for September 17, 2024.
