Delaware Tech Honors Nursing Graduates at Pinning Ceremonies
December 19, 2025
Â鶹ÊÓƵ celebrated 163 nursing graduates at the end of the fall 2025 semester. Graduates from the associate nursing degree and practical nursing studies programs received a symbolic pin to mark their completion of the program. This special pinning ceremony is a tradition closely tied to an award given to legendary nurse Florence Nightingale, who is best known for leading nurses across the battlefields during the Crimean War to care for injured soldiers. After the formal presentation of the pins, each graduate held a lit candle to symbolize the light nurses bring into their patients’ lives. In total, 142 associate nursing graduates recited the Nightingale Pledge, and 21 practical nursing graduates recited the Practical Nurse’s Pledge.
The first ceremony was held on Dec. 10 at the Terry Campus in Dover for 35 associate nursing graduates and 17 practical nursing graduates. At the Owens Campus in Georgetown, 57 associate nursing graduates were celebrated during a pinning ceremony on Dec. 16, the same day the Stanton Campus celebrated 50 associate nursing graduates and four practical nursing graduates.
The Associate in Applied Science nursing degree program provides multiple learning opportunities through a balance of general education courses, nursing courses, and supervised clinical practice. Students can then choose whether to use their degree to find a job, continue on to earn their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or both. The Practical Nursing Studies Program prepares students to function under the direction of a registered nurse (RN) and/or licensed physician or dentist.
