Men's Lacrosse Team Retools to Defend Region Title

February 24, 2023

In 2022, the Â鶹ÊÓƵ men's lacrosse team set a school record for most goals scored, had two National Junior College (NJCAA) All-American athletes, and won the NJCAA Region 19 championship.

Following up such a successful season will be daunting, but this year's team is ready to defend that region title.

The 2023 men's lacrosse team features second-year players Kevin Nyandemo, Bryce Wells, Matthew Hague, Caleb Secrist, Ryan McCrary, Bregan Sullivan, Evan Hawlk, Brody McMillan, and Tyler Cipolla.

Wells is the team's primary faceoff player and had a 143-for-217 record in faceoffs last season, which placed him third in the nation in that category.

Secrist started 14 of 15 games in goal last season, recording 135 saves and nine wins.

Nyandemo is the top returning offensive player, having scored 16 goals with 12 assists in 15 games last season. Hawlk had nine goals and five assists in 14 games.

Joining the team this year are Rajay Allen (Delmar High School), Blake Gipko (Cape Henlopen High School), Dominic Hippler (Sussex Tech High School), Kendric Jones (Delmar High School), Alex Massey (William Penn High School), Christopher Phillips (Sussex Tech High School), Luke Rockwell (Sussex Tech High School), Shane Sylvester (Milford High School), Trey Wilson (Red Lion Christian Academy), Chance DeLauter (from West Virginia), and Mitchell Coburn (from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada).

The first home men's lacrosse game of the season is Wednesday, March 1, against Williams College of the Trades at 7 p.m. All Delaware Tech men's lacrosse home games take place at the DE Turf Sports Complex in Frederica.
