Meet the September Athlete Spotlight Students

September 26, 2023

Delaware Tech student-athletes must excel on and off the field as representatives of the College. Throughout the season on the Delaware Tech Athletics Instagram account, one student-athlete is regularly honored for their overall athletic performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, and commitment to education.

Here are Athlete Spotlight students this month:

Jazzlyn Maloney
Jazzlyn Maloney is a first-year member of the women's volleyball team, a civil engineering major, and a graduate of Brandywine High School. Maloney has made an immediate impact on the team this season, recording 95 assists, 98 digs, 56 kills, and 26 aces in 10 games. "Jazzlyn is a freshman this year and did not typically play setter; however, she has relished in the opportunity to lead her teammates in a new way by being our primary setter on the team and is excelling," Head Coach Leigh DeSantis said. "Her optimistic and positive attitude sets the tone on the court and keeps everyone’s spirits high even if we are making mistakes. I know we will continue to see great things from her this season."

Brayden Fosty
Brayden Fosty is a first-year member of the men's cross country team, a mechanical engineering major, and a graduate of Newark High School. Fosty has led Delaware Tech in one 8k race, one 5k race, and two community 5k races so far this season, finishing in 29:35, 18:05, 19:12, and 19:25 for each respective race. "Not only is Brayden a leader while racing, but he executes by example during practice as well," Head Coach Mike O'Brian said. "Brayden's discrete but deliberate demeanor is contagious throughout the team and admired by his coaches."

Megan Carroll
Megan Carroll is a first-year member of the women’s volleyball team, an early care and education major, and a graduate of Smyrna High School. Carroll has been a statistical leader in multiple categories for Delaware Tech through the first few weeks of the 2023 season, and has 89 digs, 84 kills, 77 assists, and 22 aces through 10 games. “Megan is important to the team because she stepped up to fill a gap for the team to make us stronger,” Head Coach Leigh DeSantis said. “She has allowed us to run a 6-2 successfully, so she sets while in the back row and hits when in the front. We truly are getting the best of both worlds with her, and she is a force multiplier for our team.”

Ruby Champney
Ruby Champney is a first-year member of the women's cross country team, a general studies major, and a graduate of Padua Academy. Champney has shown steady improvement throughout the 2023 season, improving her 5k time from 33:50 at the start of the season, to a personal record of 26:01. She also placed in her age group at the College's Run, White & Blue and Hometown Heroes community events this month. "Ruby has displayed impressive improvement within the first month of the season," Head Coach Mike O'Brian said. "She is showing increasing confidence and determination with each workout and decreasing finishing times with each competition. Her teammates and all of the coaches are excited to see what Ruby can do throughout the rest of the season."
