Meet the September Athlete Spotlight Students
September 27, 2022
Delaware Tech student-athletes must excel on and off the field as representatives of the College. Each week on the Delaware Tech Athletics Instagram account, one student-athlete is honored for their overall athletic performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, and commitment to education.
Here are the students that were featured on Athlete Spotlight this month:
Paige Orth
Paige Orth is a freshman on the women's volleyball team, a drug and alcohol counseling major, and a graduate of Polytech High School. As a middle blocker, Orth has started off the season playing like a veteran. In 8 games, she has 21 kills, 5 solo blocks, 6 assisted blocks, and 3 digs. "I like the dynamic of our team and how things are flowing," she said. "And this is college volleyball, so it has a little more 'oomph' to it than high school."
Alexcia Sutton
Alexcia Sutton is a second-year member of the women's volleyball team, a general studies major, and a graduate of Red Lion Christian Academy. Sutton is a versatile player who provides Delaware Tech with powerful outside hitting and quick reflexes on backline defense. Through 8 games, Sutton has 36 digs, 19 kills, 12 assists, and 11 aces "The team this year is very special," she said. "All of us have the same humor which brought us together instantly. I know with this team, including our coaches, that we are all there for each other on and off the court. Every girl on this team is incredibly talented and ready to do what is necessary to be a team player. We play for each other, not ourselves. I am so excited that they are who I get to play my second season with!"
Joe Volk
Joe Volk is a second-year member of the men's cross country team, an environmental engineering major, and a graduate of Hodgson Vo-Tech. Volk has been the top finishing male runner for Delaware Tech in every race since the first race of the 2021 season, and was an all-region runner in 2021. "Joe picked up where he left off last season, leading the team across the finish line at both meets of the season so far," Head Coach Mike O'Brian said. "Joe continues to show the grit and determination needed both on and off the course to lead the team back to the Region XIX Championship race and himself to the NJCAA National Championship race."
Kailee Gautier
Kailee Gautier is a second-year member of the women's volleyball team, a general studies major, and a graduate of St. Elizabeth High School. Gautier is technically playing her first season with Delaware Tech as she suffered a major knee injury during the 2021 pre-season. She has worked her way back into the team's lineup, providing depth along the frontline and a strong serve, as well as leadership as one of the team's captains. "Kailee has been a pivotal member of this team," Head Coach Leigh DeSantis said. "Not only is she one of our team captains, but she also helps set the tone and intention for our matches and practices. To say she is a valued member would be an understatement."
