Erin Carney Named Head Coach of Delaware Tech Women’s Volleyball Team
March 26, 2025
Â鶹ÊÓƵ is excited to announce that its very own Erin Carney has been named head coach of the women’s volleyball team. Having served as an assistant coach for the College since 2023, she is more excited than ever to take on this new role.
“As head coach, my goal is to ultimately contribute toward a program that is equally fun, focused, and provides opportunities for growth,” said Carney. “I believe athletes can be really successful in life if they work toward developing resiliency, mindfulness, and proactively responding to adversity. My hope is to provide my players with the skills needed to obtain these goals and tie them back into the physical training aspects of the game. It will always be bigger than just volleyball for us.”
Carney graduated from Delaware Tech in 2020 with a general studies degree, but her love for coaching brought her back to the College in 2023 when positions for both the assistant volleyball coach and athletics administrative assistant opened up at the same time.
As the current administrative assistant in the athletics department, Carney is responsible for organizing purchases, planning travel details, assisting with team and staff scheduling, and working closely with other departments to ensure the success of student-athletes.
As the assistant coach, Carney would plan for games, plan out practices, set up film sessions, organize team bonding activities, and provide both athletic and academic support for players. Her favorite memory as an assistant coach was when the team won a reverse-sweep match against the nationally ranked Lehigh Carbon Community College.
“Being down in the first two sets made it difficult to keep everyone’s heads up,” said Carney. “Despite the odds being against us, our players made a remarkable comeback through teamwork, keeping the energy high, and adjusting to the other team’s offense. I was so incredibly proud of them for fighting through this match that day and showing everyone just how talented of a group they were. It was a great reminder that determination and keeping a positive mentality can conquer all.”
In addition to her Delaware Tech experience, Carney has collectively played and coached volleyball for 14 years. Her background extends across youth clinics, summer camps, skills sessions, and a number of travel teams.
Overall, Carney has found that her time as an assistant coach gave her a deep understanding of the program and its players. She always enjoys watching the team come together on the court each year and looks forward to the start of the 2025 season in the fall.
“Being a part of the Delaware Tech women’s volleyball program over the last two seasons has been such a special experience for me,” she said. “Not only have I been able to grow here professionally, but also personally. I cherish the players, coaches, and staff that have supported me during my time here.”
