Denise Gooch Inducted into Delaware Tech Owens Campus Hall of Fame

Denise Gooch was the youngest full-time employee on Delaware Tech’s “Southern Campus” when she was hired as a secretary for the “Evening Division” at just 19 years old. Recently, she was inducted into the Owens Campus Hall of Fame after 43 years of service to the College.

“Denise has mastered the skill of how to deal with people, regardless of the situation, which I believe to be her greatest gift,” said retired Dean of Student Affairs Ann Del Negro at the induction ceremony. “She is a Delaware Tech treasure.”

During her years at Delaware Tech, Gooch held the roles of administrative assistant to the director, office manager, and senior administrative coordinator. Many of her family, friends, and former co-workers attended the Hall of Fame induction to celebrate and honor her time spent with Delaware Tech.

“She is a genuine people person that always remained professional, encouraging and adaptable,” said Debbie Davis, retired conference center coordinator and one of Gooch’s colleagues. “As her friend, I will add that she is loyal, supportive, thoughtful, considerate, and compassionate.”

Gooch’s involvement and dedication to the College is evident in the number of committees on which she served. These include, but are not limited to, the Owens Campus College Senate, the Owens Campus Hall of Fame Committee as chair and co-chair, the Owens Campus Black History Committee, the Collegewide Diversity Committee, the Owens Middle States Committee, and the Women’s Day Celebration Committee.

Throughout her decades of dedication and service to the College and its students, Gooch facilitated and nurtured countless friendships with her co-workers, who noted her kindness, positivity, and patience.

Outside of Delaware Tech, Gooch is a lifelong member and officer at Mt. Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church in Ellendale. In her free time, she is an avid gardener and enjoys the peace of nature, but her greatest and most precious treasure is her family to whom she is a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
