Delaware Tech's Social Media Conference Returns to Owens Campus
March 31, 2023
Â鶹ÊÓƵ's Social Media Conference returned on March 30 at the Owens Campus in Georgetown for the first time since 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year's keynote remarks were delivered by Andrew Davis, a dynamic and engaging national speaker and best-selling author. During his career, Davis has built and sold a digital marketing agency, produced for NBC, and worked for The Muppets. At the conference, he injected humor and real-life examples into his comments as he outlined a marketing strategy that will help promote products and services on a limited budget. He used the analogy of a pizza cut into more slices as the way marketing teams are asked to do more without any additional funds.
"Our marketing pie isn't getting any bigger. It's just getting sliced more ways," he said, "I think we need to rethink the fundamental strategy we're using."
The conference also featured a panel discussion that included: Danny Aguilar, assistant general manager and director of marketing for the Delaware State Fair; Jami Jackson, owner of gingham + grace clothing boutique; Dawn Mosley, senior associate vice president for communications and marketing at Delaware State University; Courtney Thomas, social media strategist/manager for Aloysius Butler & Clark; Ryan Walker, TikTok influencer; and Marcus Watkins, manager, digital marketing and engagement for United Way Delaware.
Watkins summed up the purpose of social media promotion for non-profit organizations this way: "You are showing people what the world looks like if you don't exist."
Attendees also had the opportunity to participate in several breakout sessions that covered a variety of topics, including how to build your brand, how to create a social media plan, budgets and best practices, and analytics.
This year's event sponsors were Jimmy's Grille Catering, Surf Bagel, Video In Progress, State Farm – Ron Krajewski Agency, and Lighthouse Catering.
