Delaware Tech's Men's Lacrosse Team Wins 2022 NJCAA Region 19 Championship
June 2, 2022
After playing at the club level in 2019 due to low numbers and not playing at all in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Â鶹ÊÓƵ's men's lacrosse team returned to prominence on April 29 when it defeated Union County Community College 20-5 to win the 2022 NJCAA Region 19 Men's Lacrosse Championship.
"I'm proud of all of them and of all of our coaches," Head Coach Sean Tischler said. "The year was incredible and objectively speaking it was one of the best years in the history of the program."
Against Union, freshman Brandon Tice scored 6 goals and had 1 assist, while sophomore Jack Dennis had 4 goals and 2 assists, and sophomore Conor Christie had 4 goals.
Delaware Tech's victory over Union was the semifinal round of the 2022 NJCAA Region 19/Mid-Atlantic District Tournament. The finals of the tournament featured Delaware Tech against Nassau College, a national powerhouse from NJCAA Region 15. Nassau, seeded 3rd, was invited to the tournament due to a lack of teams participating in Region 15. Nassau entered the tournament ranked 5th in the nation and lived up to that billing with a 27-7 win over Delaware Tech to claim the NJCAA Mid-Atlantic District Championship and end Delaware Tech's season.
Against Nassau, Dennis scored 4 goals and sophomore Matt Kracyla scored 2.
This year's men's lacrosse team set a new school record in goals for the season (249 including the two tournament games) and Christie set a new school record for total points by one player in a season (87 including the two tournament games). The region championship was the number one goal the players and coaching staff set at the beginning of the season and the team finished undefeated in region play against opponents Union, Mercer County, and Sussex County.
"I thought they had it in them, but I was worried about our region opponents all offseason," Tischler said. "Every note we sent out in the offseason said what are you doing today to beat Mercer, Sussex, and Union and when we beat them in the regular season, I knew we had a legit shot at winning the region."
