Delaware Tech Softball Receives Multiple Accolades
June 6, 2022
Year after year the Â鶹ÊÓƵ softball team gets better. The team followed up a tremendous 2021 season by repeating as region and district champions, competing in the 2022 NJCAA Division II Softball National Tournament, and winning just the third national tournament game in program history.
All of those accomplishments wouldn't have been possible without some dynamic players. Recently, 10 of the team's 14 players were named to the NJCAA Region 19 All-Region teams.
"It just showed how good our season was," said Head Coach Guy Wilkins, who was also named 2022 NJCAA Region 19 Coach of the Year. "We had a spectacular season; this was just a great group of young student-athletes that love and want to play softball."
In addition, third baseman Macey Myers was named 2022 NJCAA Region 19 Player of the Year for recording a second-straight season of amazing offensive numbers. Myers had a .460 batting average, a .514 on base percentage, and a .810 slugging percentage with 58 hits, 59 RBI, and 6 home runs.
"I worked hard every day and I'm just glad my hard work paid off," Myers said. "It's a great feeling because I was not expecting it."
Joining Myers as a first team all-region selection is outfielder Kandice Schlabach who led the region in home runs with 10 while batting .427 with 44 hits and 39 RBI.
Delaware Tech players comprise almost the entire second team, starting with pitchers Lauren Smith and Carly Collins. Smith finished the season with a 15-4 record and a 2.11 ERA, while Collins had a 12-1 record with a 1.84 ERA.
Outfielder Couri Smith was the team's leadoff batter and finished with a .472 average, 58 hits, and an amazing 19 stolen bases.
Infielders Carlin Quinn, Logan Walls, Kylie Kruger, and Jada Courtney were also all named to the second team along with catcher Jenna Donovan. Quinn, playing mostly shortstop, batted .477 with 41 hits and 30 RBI. Walls, playing mainly second base, batted .412 with 49 hits, 32 RBI, and 9 stolen bases. Kruger played every position except pitcher and catcher and recorded a flawless fielding percentage while batting .425 with 54 hits and 38 RBI.
