Delaware Tech Cross Country Runners Claim Region Titles
November 13, 2023
Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s men’s cross country team claimed the 2023 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 19 Division II Men’s Championship at the 2023 NJCAA Region 19 Championship Meet on Oct. 28 in Lancaster, Pa, and freshmen Brayden Fosty and Hannah Lensico won the individual men’s and women’s titles as well.
The men’s team competed in division II without any other competition and had all six runners finish to earn the championship and have the entire team named individual NJCAA Region 19 All-Region runners.
As he has done all season, Fosty led the way with an 8k time of 31:02. He was followed by Matthew Bitler, running in his first race all season, in a time of 36:05. Luke Morrow (37:11), Ben Stulir (38:01), Tim Hammack (43:55), and Paul Urbaniak (1:13:00) rounded out the team.
There were also no other division II teams on the women’s side besides Delaware Tech, but since there were only two women’s runners for Delaware Tech this season, they were unable to compete for a team championship. A minimum of five runners is required to comprise a team.
Lensico returned from injury to finish the 5k course in a time of 30:37, followed closely by Ruby Champney in a time of 31:44.
The team wrapped up the 2023 cross country season by competing in the 2023 NJCAA National Cross Country Championship meet on Nov. 11 in Huntsville, Ala.
