Delaware Tech Breaks Ground on Stanton Campus Child Development Center

September 20, 2023

Â鶹ÊÓƵ has broken ground on a new child development center at its Stanton Campus that will offer child care to students, employees, and community members. Senator Tom Carper and Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester joined College leaders in a September ground-breaking ceremony to celebrate the $7 million project, which was funded through the American Rescue Plan.

“This project was made possible by the support of Senator Carper, Senator Coons, Representative Blunt Rochester, Governor John Carney, and Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long,” said Delaware Tech President Mark T. Brainard. “We sincerely appreciate the support they consistently give to the College, our students, and the community. When this project is complete, we will have child development centers on all of our four campuses.”

The 11,000 square-foot center is expected to open in January 2025 and will include five classrooms for children ranging from infants to pre-kindergarten. The classrooms will surround a multi-purpose room, and three playgrounds will be constructed outside.

“When we were crafting the American Rescue Plan to help uplift our communities, this is just the kind of project our Congressional Delegation had in mind,” said Sen. Tom Carper who voted for the American Rescue Plan, along with U.S. Senator Chris Coons and Rep. Blunt Rochester. “This center will not only help families, it will also help our economy so parents can go back to school and work.

Delaware Tech already has child development centers at each of its other three campuses—Wilmington, Dover, and Georgetown. All are fully licensed by the Delaware Office of Child Care Licensing and have achieved a five-star rating from the Delaware Stars for Early Success, the state’s Quality Rating and Improvement System administered by the Delaware Department of Education. Delaware Tech's child development centers also provide an opportunity for the College's early childhood education students to get hands-on experience working with preschool children so they are fully prepared to enter the workforce upon graduation.

"For decades, Â鶹ÊÓƵ has expertly provided parents with the tools, resources, and flexibility needed to earn their degrees and take care of their families," said Rep. Blunt Rochester. "This center will help parents continue to grow their skills and earn their degrees with the peace of mind that their children are receiving quality care during their most formative years - helping grow our economy, strengthen our workforce, and support child development all at the same time."
