Delaware Tech Athletics Awards Night Celebrates Student-Athlete Achievements
June 11, 2025
Â鶹ÊÓƵ closed out a successful 2024-2025 athletics season by celebrating the academic and athletic accomplishments of its student-athletes. The College recently hosted Athletics Awards Night ceremonies in each county for athletes competing in men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, men’s lacrosse, baseball, and softball.
The top collegewide athletics awards are the John C. Shew award, which goes to the second-year student-athlete with the highest GPA, and the President’s Award, which is presented to one male and one female athlete who demonstrate academic success, leadership, and citizenship, while being an ambassador for the College’s athletics program.
The John C. Shew Award is named in honor of a former academic counselor and athletics director who was a staunch believer in academics and athletics, and an advocate for the importance of education. This year’s Shew Award winner is sophomore men’s lacrosse player Ethan Parker.
A member of the Class of 2025, Parker recently graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA, earning his associate degree in energy management with a building automations system option. He earned Region 19 All-Region Team honors in 2024 and 2025 from the National Junior College Academic Association (NJCAA) and was named to the 2024 and 2025 Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC) all-academic team.
This year’s President's Award winners are softball player Cecilia Johnston and lacrosse player Gabe Smith.
Johnston graduated summa cum laude this spring with a general business degree. She earned 2025 EPAC All-Academic honors and was named to the NJCAA All-Academic First Team in 2024.
Smith was named 2024 NJCAA Region 19 defensive player of the year and earned a spot on the 2024 and 2025 Region 19 All-Region teams. He also was named to the EPAC all-academic team. Most recently, he graduated magna cum laude as a member of the class of 2025 with his associate degree in mechanical engineering.
