Cross Country Preparing for 2022 Season

August 25, 2022

Delaware Tech's men's and women's cross country runners will aim to continue the program's success when the 2022 season kicks off on Sept. 3.

Since 2016, the program has had 25 NJCAA Region 19 All-Region runners while the men's program is a three-time region champion and the women's program won one region championship.

"As always, our team's goal is to have success on our home course during the regional meet in late October, qualifying us for the NJCAA national meet taking place in Tallahassee, Fla. in mid-November," Head Coach Mike O'Brian said. "In addition, our student-athletes strive for well-rounded success on and off the course – academically, professionally, family life, socially."

The men's team will be powered by returning runners Joseph Volk and Jacob Gordon, both of whom finished 2021 as all-region runners, and Reese Lohman, as well as newcomers DeAndre Snipes Brown and Colby Morris. The women's team will be led by Kaitlyn Cavallucci, who finished 2021 as an all-region runner and a conference champion.

"Cross country is the perfect metaphor for life, meaning you get out what you put into it," O'Brian said. "The returning runners know they need to commit. Our veterans now realize what it takes to compete at the college level and part of that is the willingness to prepare throughout the previous months leading up to and executing throughout the season."

Joining O'Brian on this year's coaching staff is assistant Logan Hallee, an alumnus of the program who coached last season. They are joined by Karin Ryndak, a longtime assistant coach in the program and a site manager for CardioKinetics, and first-year assistant Kevin McLaughlin, who previously ran and coached at Middletown High School and Wilmington University.

The first cross country meet is Sept. 3 at White Clay Creek State Park in Newark starting at 9 a.m. Additional key races for the program include Sept. 16 at Carousel Park in Wilmington starting at 9 a.m., Oct. 1 at Winter Place Park in Salisbury, Md. starting at 2:30 p.m., and the region championship meet at White Clay Creek on Oct. 29 starting at 11 a.m.
