College's Dover Campus Hosts Guest Speaker at Black History Month Luncheon

March 2, 2023

As part of Delaware Tech's observation of Black History Month, the Terry Campus in Dover welcomed Rev. Dr. John Moore Sr., motivational speaker and MLK dramatic impersonator, as a guest speaker for a luncheon on Monday, Feb. 27, 2023. Moore spoke in depth about the life and times of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and interspersed reenactments of King's speeches throughout the presentation.

After a welcome address from Vice President and Campus Director Cornelia Johnson, Engineering Technologies Instructor Dr. Reggie Chandler Jr. led the approximately 100 attendees in a rendition of "Lift Every Voice and Sing," often referred to as the Black National Anthem.

Moore then took guests on a historical and impactful journey through King's life, punctuated with powerful recitations of portions of King's most inspirational speeches.

"The speaker, Rev. Dr. John Moore Sr., was very congenial and spoke very eloquently," said Melissa A. Jeter, a student in the human services program who attended the luncheon. "He was very passionate about what he spoke and conveyed a message of unity of all."

Following Moore's presentation, Dean of Student Affairs Kerri Harmon provided closing remarks before attendees enjoyed a soul food buffet prepared by Tomeka's Homestyle Eatery.
