College Honors Distinguished Donors at Celebration of Giving Events

Delaware Tech acknowledged and honored its distinguished donors with Celebration of Giving luncheons at both the Georgetown and Dover campuses. At these events, scholarship recipients spoke about how the financial assistance they received has changed their lives, and donors had the opportunity to meet the students who have received the scholarships they generously funded.
The Owens Campus in Georgetown held its luncheon on March 13, where scholarship recipients Taylor Cannon, Tanya Garcia, and Raymond Magabalane shared their gratitude and personal testimonials.
Garcia, a high school student at Sussex Academy who is pursuing her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification, spoke of a month-long hospital stay that inspired her to enter the College’s CNA program.
"I thought to myself that maybe I could start somewhere by helping others the way the nurses helped me throughout my stay," she said. "The scholarship I received helped me financially in pursuing this path, because my parents were in and out of work to be with me in the hospital. I did not believe that I would be able to enter the program until I got a message that I received a scholarship."
At the Terry Campus event in Dover on March 27, guests heard inspirational remarks from students Michael Adams, Ikea Dunbar, Alondra Estrada, Sharlene Paolino, and Emily Ransdell.
During her speech, Paolino shared how receiving a scholarship allows her to focus on the rigors of the College's nursing program.
"My heart is filled with gratitude, and I am blessed to have had the opportunity to be awarded a scholarship because it has alleviated the stress of possibly having to pick up extra hours at work to pay for school," she said. "I can focus and really plan for my future. One day I do aspire to be a trauma/flight nurse, and for the first time in a long time I am determined to make my dreams happen. Your generosity has helped shape many futures, including mine."
