Chemistry Will Key Success for Young Men's Basketball Team
October 27, 2023
Delaware Tech’s men’s basketball team features a host of new faces for the 2023-2024 season, and head coach Richard Rago said how quickly they come together will dictate how much winning this year’s team will be able to do.
“The success of this year will be the ability of our team, through hard work and determination, to create the chemistry necessary to be a winner,” Rago said. “Believe me, we have some talent, height, good shooting guards, and ball handlers. We only have three returners from last year, but have a number of transfers and some top high school recruits.
“Our talent should allow us to score, but to be successful each and every player must buy in to the word defense.”
The three returning players are guards Keyon Scott and Nia-Gere Wright and forward Jordan Moore. Scott and Moore will serve as team captains, and Scott was an all-conference selection last season.
“They have been exceptional in their role to show the newcomers what they need to do to be winners,” Rago said “The mood of the players has been excellent following these leaders.
“Keyon is outgoing and leads by example on the floor. There is no question in my mind that he can and will be one of the best players in the conference. Jordan is a quiet leader, but his game has improved so much over the past year that he will surprise not only our fans, but our opponents.”
Joining those three are three newcomers who earned a starting role in Drew Zimmerman (Cape Henlopen High School), Cameron Moore (Cross Christian Academy), and Toma Smith (Perry Hall High School). This year’s team also features Ke’Shawn Hunt (Freire Charter), Dajour McKamey (Brandywine High School), RJ Barker (Appoquinimink), Logan Fitch (Middletown High School), Memphis Goodson (A.I. duPont High School), Airin Hunter (Christiana High School), Zach Smith (Delmarva Christian Academy), Destin Gallop (from Overlea High School in Baltimore, Md.) and Ricardo Taylor. (from Blake Academy in the Bahamas).
“I expect our style of play to be one of very tough defense that will create steals and turnovers leading to many fast break baskets,” Rago said. “However, whenever necessary we can play an effective half-court offense with substantial ball movement and outstanding shooters.
“One thing is for sure, our style of play and athleticism will make the game very exciting for the fans.”
Delaware Tech opens the season on Nov. 2 at Rowan College of South Jersey-Gloucester, before the home opener on Nov. 4 against Cecil College at 2 p.m. at the Stanton Campus.

Delaware Tech’s men’s basketball starting lineup consists of Cameron Moore, Drew Zimmerman, Toma Smith, Keyon Scott, and Jordan Moore.
