Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Program Wins Superstars in Education Award
June 30, 2025
Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s commercial driver’s license (CDL) program was selected by the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce as its 2025 Superstars in Education and Training Award winner in the higher education category. The award was presented during the Navigating Delaware Pathways: An Education and Workforce Development Summit.
The CDL program, offered at the Commercial Transportation Training Center in Georgetown and the Middletown Center, is a comprehensive 240-hour curriculum that combines classroom learning with practical driving experience. Upon successful completion of the program, students earn their CDL Class A license.
Providing hands-on training in small class sizes, the program equips students with the skills needed to secure high-paying jobs in the trucking industry, one of the most in-demand sectors in Delaware and the nation.
“There are about 3.5 million tractor trailers on the road, but there are approximately 80,000 open seats, and that number is expected to grow in the next few years,” said Bryan Ward, collegewide department chair. “There is tremendous opportunity for drivers entering the industry.”
Superstars in Education and Training Awards highlight innovative educational programs that play a key role in developing the skilled workforce necessary to attract and retain businesses in Delaware.
According to Dr. Christopher Moody, associate vice president of Workforce Development and Community Education at Delaware Tech, receiving such an accolade shows the quality of the College’s CDL program and its significance to students and local employers.
“This recognition means so much…not only to us as educators, but to every student who’s taken the step toward building a better future through this program,” he said. “We proudly share this award with our dedicated students, instructors, and staff, as well as our valued industry partners who help make this work possible every single day.”
