Both Fall Delaware Tech Athletics Teams Compete for Region Championships on Oct. 29

This Saturday, Oct. 29 is “Championship Saturday” in New Castle County for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ’s women’s volleyball and men’s and women’s cross country programs.

The day starts with the 2022 NJCAA Region 19 Cross Country Championships at White Clay Creek State Park. The women’s 5k race will begin at 11 a.m., while the men’s 8k race goes off at noon. Delaware Tech competes in Division I in cross country.

Delaware Tech is led by 2021 NJCAA Region 19 All-Region runners Joe Volk, a Hodgson Vo-Tech graduate, Kaitlyn Cavallucci, a Sussex Technical High School graduate, and Jacob Gordon, a Caesar Rodney High School graduate. Volk has been the fastest-finishing male runner for Delaware Tech throughout the 2022 season, and Cavallucci has performed the same for the women’s team throughout this season.

Delaware Tech’s men’s cross country team has won the region three times since 2016 (2016, 2018, and 2019), while the women’s team won the region in 2018.

The women’s volleyball competes in the 2022 NJCAA Region 19 Division II Women’s Volleyball Tournament starting at noon at the Stanton Campus. Delaware Tech is hosting as the tournament’s top seed and takes on County College of Morris in the first game. The second game features NJCAA Region 15 team SUNY Ulster against Harcum College at approximately 2:30 p.m. The championship game will be played at approximately 5 p.m.

The Region 19 team with the best finish will be named 2022 NJCAA Region 19 Champions, and the team that wins the tournament overall will advance to the district tournament for a shot at qualifying for the national tournament.

Delaware Tech defeated County College of Morris 3-2 and 3-1 during the regular season, but split the season series with Harcum College, winning 3-1 at Harcum and losing 3-2 at home.

Leading Delaware Tech this season are sophomores and Red Lion Christian Academy graduates Isabella Denk and Alexcia Sutton, Smyrna High School graduate Morgan Donahue, and Delaware Military Academy graduate Isadora Reichner. Denk leads the team in assists with 450 and has 191 digs and 35 aces. Sutton leads the team in digs with 319 and has 44 aces. Donahue leads the team in kills with 125 and aces with 44, while also having 244 digs. Reichner has 115 kills and 153 digs.

Delaware Tech last won the region championship in 2016.
