March 31, 2026
Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Black Student Alliance (BSA) hosted its Open Mic Night at the George Campus in Wilmington, bringing together students, faculty, staff, family, and community members for an evening of creativity and expression.
Emceed by club advisors Dr. Lisa Lancaster and Germaine Solomon, the third annual event was held on March 25 and featured a variety of performances by students and faculty, including spoken word, singing, rapping, dancing, music, and fashion. Performers were selected through an audition process.
Highlights of the evening included performances by Delaware Tech students: a spoken-word poetry piece, “Time Please Stop,” by Joy Davis; a fashion show by K’Hala Karyn featuring her clothing line, “Delaware Born, Worldwide Worn”; and an original rap piece, “Look Me In The Eyes,” by Yung Gibz. Attendees enjoyed a soul-food dinner by Amity Bistro during intermission.
“This event creates a dedicated space for expression, recognition, and community-building centered on voices and experiences,” the club’s advisors said. “Overall, the program contributes to a more inclusive campus culture while giving students a meaningful outlet to be heard and celebrated.”
The BSA, a student club at the Wilmington campus, supports students by creating opportunities to discuss issues affecting academic and personal development. The club allows students to receive guidance and support, increase their community involvement and service learning, and participate in campus activities. Open Mic Night reflected that mission by fostering belonging, amplifying voices, and strengthening connections across the Wilmington Campus.
