Â鶹ÊÓƵ welcomed nearly 1,000 juniors from Appoquinimink, Middletown, and Odessa high schools to its Terry Campus in Dover on March 11 for the annual Appoquinimink Workforce Readiness Fair.

The fair provides students with an opportunity to build their professional and workforce development skills as they enter their senior year of high school. Throughout the day, they rotated between activities across campus focused on interview preparation, networking, and workforce development.

“I always reflect back to that first year,” said Mike Trego, Appoquinimink school district college and career readiness supervisor. “There were, you know, maybe a couple 100 students. It’s such a difference from that day to now, where we have almost 1,000 students coming, and the energy from the students as excitement to be able to be here.”

The juniors arrived in business casual attire, ready to practice mock interviews to strengthen their communication skills and learn how to make a positive impression on potential employers.

Delaware Tech employees and industry experts from various Appoquinimink pathways, such as animal science, construction, culinary arts, and healthcare sciences, provided insight into their careers and led activities focused on professional development.

During lunch, the students networked with local industry professionals to ask questions and gain valuable career advice. Dr. Paul T. Morris, Jr., vice president and campus director, encouraged students to take advantage of this experience.

“Have fun today. Walk around. Keep your eyes open,” he said. “Look around, see if this is the place that you want to be. We want you here [at Delaware Tech].”
