2025 PSLA Class Wraps Up with Capstone Event
May 30, 2025
The Presidential Student Leadership Academy (PSLA) concluded its spring 2025 semester program on May 23 with a capstone luncheon and awards ceremony on the Terry Campus in Dover.
Fourteen students successfully completed the 12-week program, now in its fourth year at the College. Participants experience unique opportunities to develop their leadership skills through discussions, readings, presentations, and a day trip to Washington, D.C., led by members of the College’s senior leadership team.
“I tell our participants that when they graduate from Delaware Tech, leadership will determine the quality and values of their work experience, the quality of life they live, and the type of we leave for the future,” said Dr. Mark T. Brainard, president of Delaware Tech. “The goal of this program is to help them prepare for those opportunities.”
The PSLA curriculum includes both in-person events and activities, as well as at-home reading and writing assignments to give students the benefits of active learning in their discussions and personal time for reflection. Programmatic themes of leadership development, self-awareness, empathy, servant leadership, compassion, critical thinking, and the role of history in our present-day decision-making guide the lessons and activities throughout the program schedule.
This year’s PSLA trip to Washington, D.C., in April included visits to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
“Each and every leader at PSLA (including the students) have helped me notice qualities in myself, which has encouraged me to grow in specific ways,” said participant Kennedy Anglesey. “I appreciate and honor all of the connections I have made in the Academy. My hope for the future is to grow the leadership skills that will assist in my ability to be confident and be a strong pillar for others support systems.”
The 2025 PSLA cohort included students from each Delaware Tech campus representing a cross-section of majors including nursing, human services, architectural engineering, legal studies, business, and general studies.
To be eligible for the program, students must have completed 12+ credits and be in good academic standing. Many of the students who successfully finished the 2025 program are in the earlier stages of their degree program, but three of the students graduated in spring 2025. PSLA participation is noted on transcripts of students who successfully complete the program.
