Delaware Tech’s Annual Hometown Heroes 5k Raises Funds for Student Scholarships

More than 300 runners and walkers joined Â鶹ÊÓƵ employees, students, and volunteers on Sept. 18 for the annual Hometown Heroes 5k Run/1 Mile Walk hosted by the College’s Stanton and Wilmington campuses. This year’s race raised over $22,000 for student scholarships.
For the fourth year in a row, event activities took place in front of the 100-year-old Rockford Tower at Rockford Park in Wilmington. The event began with a ceremony to celebrate sophomores on the men’s and women’s cross-country teams. More than 75 volunteers supported the event, including Delaware Tech employees, students from the College’s education program, and student-athletes from the cross-country and women’s volleyball teams. In addition to the run/walk, the event also included post-race refreshments, music, children’s activities, and raffle prizes.
The top runners included first-place male, Christopher Crossen, with a time of 17:04, and first-place female, Samantha Muntzer, with a time of 22:42.
